5 Days Marangu Route

5 days of a remarkable journey with the Kilimanjaro Marangu Route as your adventure commences in Moshi. You’ll stay at a comfortable hotel nestled on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the perfect launchpad for your climb. After a pre-climb briefing and equipment check, including confirming your mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance, the trek unfolds. Starting at the National Park gate, you venture through the captivating tropical rainforest to reach Mandara Hut on day two. The third day brings you to Horombo Hut through moorland landscapes, boasting clear vistas of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Kibo Hut, your gateway to the lunar desert, is your base on day four. A gradual climb prepares you for the ultimate ascent. Day five marks a pre-midnight start, leading you to Gillman’s Point and possibly Uhuru Peak. A swift descent brings you to Horombo Hut. On the sixth day, you descend to Marangu Hut and receive your summit certificates. Then, it’s back to Moshi for dinner and rest. On the final day, bid farewell as you depart, with private transfers to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Consider extending your adventure with a safari or other activities.

Day 1: Arrive in Moshi – Kilimanjaro Marangu Route Adventure Begins

Upon your arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed and accommodated at the Hotel, a charming lodge nestled on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. This serene setting is the ideal place to prepare for your grand Kilimanjaro Marangu Route adventure. At 5:30 pm, we will convene for a pre-climb briefing and equipment check. We’ll also ensure you have the necessary mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance for your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route expedition.

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Into the Rainforest

Following a hearty breakfast, we embark on a short journey from your hotel to the National Park gate to complete the required formalities. The climb commences through the enchanting tropical rainforest, leading us to our first hut, Mandara, where we will dine and spend the night. Alternatively, you can choose to relax in the captivating forest surroundings. The journey from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 m) typically takes 5-6 hours on foot.

Day 3: Horrombo Hut – Moorland Majesty

Today’s trek begins with a steep ascent through the forest, which soon gives way to a breathtaking moorland terrain. In clear weather, you’ll enjoy splendid views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. By mid-afternoon, we reach Horombo Hut, offering an opportunity to unwind and relish the awe-inspiring scenery. The trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) usually takes 4-6 hours on foot.

Day 4: Kibo Hut – Gateway to the Lunar Desert

Our journey leads us gradually to the lunar desert of the Saddle, nestled between Mawenzi and Kibo. We’ll take this 6-7 hours walk at a leisurely pace, ultimately arriving at Kibo Hut (4,700 m), where we’ll spend the night in a comfortable refuge. Please note that there is no running water at Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is designated for relaxation in preparation for the final ascent, leading to an early night’s rest. The trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700 m) usually takes 4-6 hours on foot.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Summit to Horrombo Hut

Rise before midnight, shrouded in the cover of darkness, to embark on a steep climb over loose volcanic scree. This challenging ascent consists of well-graded zig-zags, and maintaining a deliberate, steady pace will guide us to the rim of the main crater, Gillman’s Point at 5,685 m. We’ll take a brief respite here, basking in the sunrise over Mawenzi. For those still feeling energized, a three-hour round trip along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa, is an option. After a moment to appreciate this incredible achievement, we begin our descent, which is remarkably swift. We pause at Kibo Hut for refreshments and continue the descent, arriving at Horombo Hut. The journey from Kibo Hut to the Summit to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) spans an impressive 13-15 hours on foot.

Day 6: Horrombo Hut – Summit Certificates and Return

Today, we descend past Mandara Hut to Marangu Hut. Successful climbers will be awarded their well-deserved summit certificates. From here, you’ll be transported to Moshi for dinner and an overnight stay. The trek from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate takes around 6-7 hours on foot.

Day 7: Departure day

After saying goodbye to our team in operation, you need a Private departure transfer from Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight unless you have an option to have Safari or any other option we will discuss.
