Northern Circuit Route
Northern circuit route the new route on Mountain Kilimanjaro. This route is located west of the Mountain Kilimanjaro as the climb starts with a 3-4 hours drive from either Moshi or Arusha to the Londorosi gate. Then an after reaching the Londorosi gate, the climb formality and permit will be issues; then, we will have a short drive to the start point of this route, the Lemosho Gate, which is where the climb will start, and we will enter the rainforest zone. On this route, we will explore the whole Shira Plateau for the first two days, then we will head to the north and circular to the Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp to School Hut, before summiting from the east. Descend is made via the Mweka route. This route offers 360 degrees on Kilimanjaro and a very long route with breathtaking scenery throughout the climb with fewer crowds. Since it is the longest route, climbers will have more time on the Mountain and acclimatize well and have the highest summit success rate. We highly recommend this route for people nowadays. We offer the Northern Circuit as a nine-day climb to our climber. The following are the campsites that are found on the Northern circuit route are Mti Mkubwa Camp, Shira 1 Camp, Shira II Camp, Moir Hut, Buffalo Camp, Third Cave, School Hut and Millenium Camp or Mweka Camp. The best months to climb the Machame route are January, February, March, Mid June, July. August, September, October and December.
The below is the nine days Nothern Circuit itinerary.
Day 1: Moshi drive to Lemosho Gate the climb up to Mti Mkubwa Camp
We will pick you from your hotel and drive to the start point of the Lemosho route, which is the Lemosho gate. At the Lemosho gate, which is 2360m from above sea level, the climb will start. After all, the Climb formality is done at Lemosho gate, and we obtain our Kilimanjaro permit and start the trek. We will pass through the rain forest zone; on this day, we will walk for 3-4 hours, and we will cover 5 km from the Lemosho gate to Mti Mkubwa camp, which is 2800 m above sea level, and this Mti Mkubwa camp will be our first camp on this Northern circuit route.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
In the morning, we will start our climb at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2800m). We will leave the rain forest zone and continue to the moorland zone and reaching the Shira 1 Camp (3500m)above sea level. We walk for 5-6 hours on this day, and we will cover 8 km from the Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp, and this Shira 1 Camp will be our second camp on this Northern circuit route.
Day 3: Shira I Camp to Shira II Camp
You will have a gentle climb across the Moorland zone at the Shira plateau and heading to Shirra 11 Camp for lunch and overnight. You can do your acclimatization hike at Shira plateau. We walk for 3 hours on this day, and we will cover 7 km from the Shira 1 Camp to Shira 11 Camp, and this Shira 11 Camp will be our thirds camp on this Northern circuit route. Those who will opt for the eight-day Northern circuit route will skip to camp at Shira 11 Camp, ascend directly to Lava Tower, and then descend to Moir Hut overnight.
Day 4: Shira 11 Camp ascending to Lava tower then descend to Moir Hut.
We will leave the Shira Plateau and ascending to the southeast toward the lava tower, which is 4600 m above sea level. We will have a hot lunch break; then, after lunch, we will descend to the Moir Hut is 4200 m above sea level. This day is for acclimatization as we will climb higher at Lava tower and sleep lower at Moir Hut, which will help our body to adapt to the Mountain for the successful summit of Mountain Kilimanjaro. We walk for 7-8 hours on this day, and we will cover 14 km from the Shira 11 camp to Moir Hut; this Moir Hut will be our fourth camp on this Northern circuit route.
Day 5: Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp
In the morning, we will trek the Moir valley, which is steep, before returning to the main trail, which we will be heading to Buffalo Camp overnight. We walk for 5-7 hours on this day, and we will cover 12 km from the Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp; this Buffalo Camp will be our fifth camp on this Northern circuit route.
Day 6: Buffalo Camp to Third Cave
We will enjoy the Kilimanjaro wilderness as this Buffalo Ridge is less traveled; we will take the northern pass of the Mountain Kilimanjaro, heading to the Third cave for the overnight. We walk for 3-4 hours on this day, and we will cover 5 km from the Buffalo Camp to Third Cave; this Third Cave will be our sixth camp on this Northern circuit route.
Day 7: Third Cave to School Hut
We will climb the Saddle in the morning, situated between the Mawenzi peak and Kibo peak, then continue to the School hut, our base camp, before summit Mountain Kilimanjaro. We walk for 4-5 hours on this day, and we will cover 5 km from the Third Cave to School Hut; this School Hut will be our seventh camp on this Northern circuit route.
Day 8: School Hut to Uhuru peak then descend to Mweka Camp
We will wake up at midnight and begining our journey to the Kilimanjaro summit as the climb will be a steep climb with the darkness. We will trek slowly with a steady pace in a single line heading to Stella point, which is 5,735m above sea level, and we will have a coffee break there while enjoying the sunrise from Mawenzi Peak. Then we will continue ascending until we reach our summit peak, the “Uhuru peak,” which is 5895 m above the sea level, which is the Roof of Africa. Then we will have photos and a celebration for our achievement; then we will descend to Barafu camp for lunch, then descend to Mweka Camp, which is 3068m above sea level for dinner and overnight. We walk for 11-15 hours on this day, and we will cover 18 km from the School Hut to Uhuru peak, to Barafu, then descend to Mweka Camp, and this Mweka Camp will be our last camp before we checkout. Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
We will descend while passing the rainforest zone then heading to Mweka gate, which is 1640m above sea level. After reaching the Mweka gate, you will collect the certificate of summit Mountain Kilimanjaro and checkout Kilimanjaro National Park; we will have lunch and celebration here for conqueror Mountain Kilimanjaro. Then later, our vehicle will take you to the hotel, which will be the end of your climb. We walk for 3-4 hours on this day, and we will cover 10 km from the Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, and this Mweka gate will be the endpoint of our climb.
